veggiehummus-300x199Having healthy snacks on hand is one of the best strategies to curb hunger throughout the day. Snacks also provide an opportunity to incorporate fruits and veggies into your diet. Think of snacks as a time to nourish your body. While you may tend to want to grab for chips or cookies in between meals because it is “easy,” if this becomes a habit you may be missing out on important nutrients and increasing your calorie, saturated fat or sodium intake. Most of theses healthy snack ideas contain protein and carbohydrates to help you feel satisfied and provide you with energy to get you through your day.

These healthy snacks are designed to help you get you through till your next meal if you are hungry. If you are not very hungry modify the snacks to make them smaller such as only 1 piece of fruit or 1 hard-boiled egg. Be conscious of your portion sizes and try to listen to your hunger cues. If you feel satisfied then try to push the plate away. If you notice you are eating out of boredom then make a list of activities you can do when you are bored, such as a short walk or organizing your closet. It is always a great idea to plan ahead to make sure you have healthy snack items in the house for when hunger strikes.
